South Cambs SSP Year 3 & 4 Mini Red Tennis Competition
Wednesday 30th May 2012
Venue
Comberton Tennis Club at Comberton Village College
Type of Competition
Tennis
Target School
Primary
Summary
This competition is being run in conjunction with Comberton Tennis Club and hosted at their courts. The event is open to all schools in South Cambs SSP with the winning school going on to represent the Partnership at the County School Games on Tuesday 10th July 2012.
Teams are mixed -2 boys and 2 girls. Schools can enter a maximum of 4 teams.
The LTA is currently offering the following incentives to schools that enter this event:
- 30 sponge and 30 red low compression tennis balls
- A racquet and ball set for four players from each school (available for the first 10,000 children who are not British Tennis Members)
As a Partnership we are also offering all schools that enter a free team training/coaching session with a professional tennis coach from a local club. So what are you waiting for, enter your team today!!
Simple rules:
· Mini Tennis Red uses badminton sized courts, 23” Mini Tennis rackets, Mini Tennis sponge balls if played indoors, or Mini Tennis red felt balls if played outdoors.
· The format is Timed Tennis; players play for a set period of time, until the whistle blows. The length of matches depends on time available and amount of entries, but matches normally last ten minutes.
· The serve is decided by a ‘toss' at the start of the match. The nominated person serves for the first point, it then alternates every two points.
· When serving, players should stand behind the baseline and the ball must not be bounced before being hit.
· The serve can be hit over or underarm and should be hit diagonally, landing in the diagonally opposite service box.
· Each court will have a helper/scorer, who calls out the scores and helps out with decisions
More information will be sent out nearer the time. If you want to know more about Mini Tennis Red you can visit the LTA website.
Don't forget to visit the School Games website where you can download competition and challenge cards to support the delivery of intra-school tennis in your school.
