District School winners from across the county took part in the inaugural U11 English Schools FA Boys County Cup held at King’s School, Ely on Friday 22nd January 2010.  Organised by the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Competition Managers, in partnership with King’s School Ely, the event brought together the winners of the 4 previous district qualifying tournaments.

The event consisted of a round robin tournament followed by a final, with Ely St Mary’s (Isle of Ely district); Milton (Cambs district); William Law (Peterborough district) and Crosshall (Hunts district) battling it out for a place in the regional round.

Despite the weather and muddy conditions, the event was a huge success with an array of talent on display to entertain the committed spectators.  All of the group matches were very close, but it was Crosshall Juniors that were the first to reach the final, alongside Ely St Mary’s, who qualified on goal difference over William Law.

The final was as entertaining and tense as the group fixtures, with the teams evenly matched at 1-1 after the final whistle.  Extra-time then followed, and so did a flurry of goals, with Crosshall racing to a 3-1 lead.  The goal of the tournament by Alex from Ely St Mary’s wasn’t enough to bring them back into the game, and the final result of 3-2 meaning Crosshall Junior will now represent Cambridgeshire & Peterborough in the next round.

Thanks must be given to King’s School, Ely for hosting the event and providing the referees.  Good Luck to Crosshall Juniors in the next round!
