Physical Activity Challenges

tennis week

During this time of uncertainty with Covid 19 we have suspended all events and delivery but are working together with our schools to make sure children stay healthy and happy both mentally and physically. We hope children can continue to do physical activity at school and also at home with their families. Get active together, play games, move about, dance, share activities and make sure your children remember some of the good times through this difficult period. Physical activity has so many benefits to health and well being and your schools will be sharing resources with you, that you can access and use at home. We all need to stay strong, be resilient and keep as healthy as we can through these challenging times. A good way to stay positive is by getting active and for us all to pull together and help each other and our community to stay as fit and healthy as we can, in a safe environment . We may not be able to attend big sporting events for a while , so it’s time to get creative and make the most of time spent together.

To try and encourage children and their families to be active we have come up with a number of challenge weeks that will take place as follows (please click on the text in red to download the activities for each week):

w/c 27th April               Netball        Netball Week Challenges

w/c 11th May                Tennis          Tennis Week Challenges

w/c 18th May               Cricket        Cricket Week Challenges           Cricket Player Profile Form

w/c 1st   June               Athletics      Athletics Week Challenges

w/c 8th June               Fitness         Fitness Week Challenges         A-Z Activities

w/c 15th June              Year 4 Mini Olympics

25th June                     Summer Virtual School Games Day

w/c 29th June            Outdoor Adventurous Activities

w/c 6th July                School Sports Day

Whilst the emphasis is very much on fun and participation we are also making this a bit of a competition so there will be individual and school prizes to be won! Each week there will be an individual winner and an overall school winner. These will be announced on our social media pages the week following the set of challenges.

Schools will accumulate points and they will be calculated as follows:

  • Each entry from a school is worth 10 points. Entries will be by uploading videos/photos of the children taking part in the challenge.
  • Any school who likes, shares, tags us or retweets any of our posts will get an extra point each time so you could gain a lot of extra points! Unfortunately it won’t count for parents’ accounts as we cannot track these. It will only be school accounts. There will be prizes for both small and large schools.

We will also be releasing the daily challenges each day at 10am throughout the week on our social media platforms @SouthCambsSSP on Twitter or on Facebook South Cambs School Sport Partnership

Parents and schools will have until the end of each week (Friday at 5pm) to complete the challenges and send them over to us. Ideally if you can complete each challenge on the day and send us the entries that would make it a lot easier for us to keep track of participants and encourage others to take part.

Videos and photos can be emailed to cmcdonnell@combertonvc.org or you can enter via Twitter or Facebook. When sending in, tweeting or tagging videos please attach the first name of the child involved and their primary school that they are representing.

Good luck and have fun!
